Shed Slabs in Hervey Bay

Slabs for garden sheds, garages, carports and big acreage sheds, set out to the shed kit's own engineering.

This line puts you onto a licensed local concreter. They quote and do the work.

Start with the shed, not the slab

Every shed kit comes with its own engineering: the footing and slab details, the bolt positions and the wind rating for the site. The slab should be built to that, not to a generic size. Before getting a slab quoted, have the shed supplier’s footing plan in hand. It saves a second quote and it saves arguments about whose job the bolt positions are.

Approvals

Small garden sheds are often exempt from building approval in Queensland, but bigger sheds, garages and carports usually are not. The shed supplier or a building certifier will tell you which side of the line yours sits on. If approval is needed, the slab and footings may be inspected before the pour, so book the concreter only once that is sorted.

Bigger blocks, bigger sheds

On the larger blocks out at Dundowran Beach and Nikenbah, sheds tend to be big: machinery sheds, caravan and boat storage, workshops. Those slabs are thicker, often have thickened edges or pier footings for the portal frame, and need room for a concrete truck to get close. A long run from the street means a pump, and that is part of the price.

Details that matter later

A shed slab should be slightly higher than the ground around it, with a fall to the door so water does not pool inside. If the shed will hold a car or a boat, ask about thickness and mesh the same way you would for a driveway. If it will be a workshop, think about where power and water need to come up through the slab, because conduit goes in before the pour, not after.

Getting it quoted

Send the shed size, the supplier’s footing plan if you have it, the suburb and a photo of the site to 0489 955 511, or use the form. A licensed local concreter will come back to you. For the drive in to the shed, see concrete driveways.

Common questions

How long do I have to keep off new concrete?

As a rule of thumb, walking is usually fine after a day or so and cars after about a week, with concrete commonly reaching its design strength at around 28 days. Your concreter's advice for your slab comes first, because the mix and the weather change the timing.

Do I need approval for a shed slab?

Small garden sheds are often exempt from building approval in Queensland, but larger sheds, garages and carports usually need it. The shed supplier or a building certifier can tell you, and the shed kit's engineering sets out what the slab needs.

Describe the job

Size, finish and suburb is plenty. A photo helps more than a long description.
